This week we hear from Tony Schifano, head coach at San Francisco State University on the ABCA Podcast. Schifano was named head coach in 2015 and led the Gators to a No. 17 final ranking in the Collegiate Baseball Poll in 2019. His team went to the CCAA Tournament for the second year in a row, which was something the program hadn’t done since 2004. Prior to San Francisco State, Schifano was the recruiting coordinator at his alma mater UC Davis, where the 2008 squad earned a bid to the NCAA Regionals and ended the year with the most wins at UC Davis in its Division I era. He also spent five seasons in the high school ranks at Los Gatos High School. He had a successful playing career at UC Davis where he is a member of the Hall of Fame and his 1995 squad competed in the Division II World Series. He signed with the Marlins out of UC Davis and played in multiple organizations, getting up to Triple-A with the Astros in 2001.This episode is a deep dive into pressure offense, building upon Schifano's presentation from the Virtual ABCA Convention. We also discuss recruiting, the disappointment of San Francisco State not having a season in 2021, and his best memories of spending time with Augie Garrido.
